Abstract
Background and Objective: Despite numerous studies on leadership styles in the education system, a precise examination of the impact of these styles on teachers’ professional empowerment—particularly in elementary schools—remains a research necessity. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the linkage between managerial leadership and teachers’ professional empowerment by examining three primary leadership styles: transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire.
Research Methodology: This study is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-correlational regarding data collection. The statistical population comprised all elementary school teachers in District 5 of Tehran’s Department of Education during the academic year 2024–2025. From this population, 315 participants were selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) by Bass and Avolio (1996) and the Spreitzer (1995) Professional Empowerment Questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and inferential tests, including Pearson’s correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression.
Findings: The data analysis indicated a significant overall relationship between leadership styles and teachers’ professional empowerment. Separately, transformational and transactional leadership styles showed a positive and significant correlation with the level of teachers’ empowerment. Conversely, no significant relationship was found between the laissez-faire leadership style and teachers’ empowerment.
Conclusion: The findings of this study can serve as a guideline for educational policymakers in designing empowerment programs for teachers and school principals, as well as in formulating strategies to enhance educational leadership.
