Context and Objective: Reflection plays a key role in the learner's dynamics because it leads to continuous revision of beliefs, methods, and learning outcomes. This concept creates a bridge between superficial learning and transformative learning, and moves the individual from mere knowledge acquisition to cognitive restructuring and mindset change. The present study has designed a reflection model in the concept of self-directed learning in Iranian higher education institutions.
Methodology: The research was conducted in terms of applied purpose using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The statistical population in the qualitative section is 15 academic experts specializing in the field of research, which was conducted using the snowball method. In the quantitative section, 385 higher education students were used for validation. In the qualitative approach, content analysis was used with Max QD software or purposive sampling, and in the quantitative approach, a descriptive survey method was used with Smart PLS 3 software.
Findings: Based on the path coefficients and t-statistic values, the largest effect is related to active learning skills with a coefficient of 0.84 and a statistic of 14.585. After that, environmental-organizational factors are in second place with a coefficient of 0.796. Also, the variable of learner self-awareness with a relatively high coefficient (0.769) has a significant effect on reflection. The coefficients related to planning skills (0.643), monitoring and control skills (0.540), motivational and emotional factors (0.648), and transformative learning (0.549) have all been confirmed at a significance level of less than 0.05.
Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the designed model has a good fit. This model can provide a valid framework for improving the quality of learning and empowering students in higher education institutions. Accordingly, strengthening individual skills, organizational supports, and developing reflective approaches play an important role in improving self-directed learning.
